Researched Group of Hero of the Soviet Union Guards Major Mel’nikov I.S. Guards Major Mel’nikov Ivan Semyonovich, born 1914, was a reconnaissance pilot, serving with 98th Guards Separate Reconnaissance Air Regiment (directly reporting to Supreme Command of Air Force of Red Army). By 1945, he flew over 100 combat missions on long distance visual and photo reconnaissance, deep behind enemy lines. The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was bestowed on him by decree of June 29, 1945. Retired in 1960. Died on Feb. 3, 1981. Documented and Researched Group of Colonel-General Kozhukhov L.I. Colonel-General of Artillery Kozhukhov Leonid Iustinovich was a high ranking career officer. Born in 1903, and only having an elementary education, he joined the Red Army in 1919, fought in the Civil War against Denikin and Makhno, and served continuously until the Great Purges of 1937-1938 almost ended his distinguished career. In June 1938 he was arrested, discharged from RKKA, and was kept under NKVD watch for 2 years. Luckily for him, the case against him was closed, and in 1940 he was admitted back to RKKA, all charges against him dropped, all awards/ranks returned. By the beginning of war, Kozhukhov was serving as Commander of the 423rd artillery company, 158th Rifle Division. During WWII, general Kozhukhov distinguished himself numerous times, reached the rank of Major-General, and by the end of the war occupied a position of Commander of the 10th Artillery Corps. Retired as Colonel-General in 1961. Died in 1974. Group comes with: • Order of Kutuzov II Class #1616 (w/Certificate of Authenticity from P.
